career search: over. i’ve found my calling.

walking campus is like accidentally walking through a dodgeball game played with tiny acorns. i constantly find myself looking over both shoulders to see if someone’s actually attempting an attack of squirrellic proportions.

but you’ve gotta note their strategic dumping of big nut loads..  no nut-piles on virgin grass…  big whomping stashes on bike paths. coincidence?

i’m still wowed by leaves.  the arizonan in me walks around with an eye for “that perfect leaf to send home”–but just as soon as i find one that’s stellar and amazing and worth its weight in postage i find its equally stellar and equally amazing friends two steps further along the red brick path.  my favorite view of the change in leaves is from the 900 room (usually beneath a stack of 8 identical chairs)–it’s just elevated enough to catch the tops of the trees collapsing onto the horizon.

recent happenings:

i got a job working as a night manager/operations assistant at the union.  my work is one part manual labor.. one part reading moby dick in the back room.

i’ve found my calling in life.  Chubby the Checker

did i tell you about my communications internship?  so. i got a call during fantastic voyage.  i’d submitted my resume to a communications internship on eCareers… the woman, my business contact, called and said “my colleagues and myself would like schedule an interview with you at your earliest convenience.”

::internal monologue: of course you would. i am the shit.::

i call back. we talk about the details of the job. she’s elated because apparently my resume matches their exact specifications.  she then coughs a little and segways into “do you have any mascot experience?”

“no no… why no, i don’t.”

she then proceeds to tell me that the primary duty of this internship is BEING chubby the charlotte checker’s ice hockey team’s mascot.

“so how much would this pay?”

oh nothing. it’s an unpaid internship.  you’ll gain such life experience and career insight into the professional mascoting circuit that you won’t be needing money..

but if you do hospital visits and mall-appearances, we’ll pay you $25/hour for that.  and we’re located right next to the bus station.
